It is strictly advisable to stop smoking, drinking alcohol or consuming any other drug for few (8-10) days before & after the surgical hair restoration treatment.
In case you are taking blood thinning medications for treatment of a stroke or heart condition then you need to stop taking them for around a week earlier or as per the Doctor’s instructions. Taking medicines like Minioxidil & Finasteride are also prohibited.
In case, there is any emergency and you are unable to come for the surgery on given date/time, you must inform in the clinic before a week.
If you’ve opted for Body Hair Transplant (BHT), it is advisable to shave the possible body donor area (chest, beard, back or thighs) hairs exactly 4 days prior to your surgery date.
Make sure you are done with the tests like RBS, CT, LFT, ECG, BT, HB% etc. before 2 days from your surgery and the reports have been sent to the doctor either personally or via mail.
If you got grey hair, then better color them black 2 days before the treatment. It would make the whole surgical procedure easy & convenient for the hair transplant surgeon.
If the patient has long hairs then it is important to cut the hairs short (with zero number machine) so as to visualize the exact bald areas where hair implantation is required to be done.
If you are prone to dandruff, then it is advisable to use Ketoconazole/ Arcolane*/Betadine Surgical Scrub*/ Scalp shampoo* daily 3 days prior to the hair transplantation.
Sleep well at night before the surgery, at least for 6-8 hours.
Avoid T-shirt that needs to wear from head when coming for the hair transplant surgery. Rather, prefer to come in comfortable clothing (with buttons/zip) so that you can easily wear & remove it without touching your head.
Before you come for hair restoration, make sure you rinse your hair properly. Do not apply any gel or oil on your hair before the treatment.
Do not come to the clinic empty stomach. Have a light, digestive breakfast/lunch before the procedure. Avoid coffee, tea, caffeine and spicy food.
While coming for hair transplantation, it is better come in a simple enough look and do not wear any valuable thing such as gold.
You can wear a cap/hat to keep your hair dust-free while coming to the clinic.
Initially, a little pain or swelling can occur towards the forehead but there is nothing to worry about; as it is common and will disappear within a few days.
To reduce the swelling, you can prefer applying ice cubes on it by putting them in a piece of cloth. If still feeling pain, then take a pain killer (as per the doctor’s recommendation).
Take medicines as per the prescription and have some milk and/or food before taking medicines. You should not take medicines empty stomach under any circumstances.
Avoid rubbing or using comb on your transplanted grafts in the first week.
Take bath carefully and prevent the head from water.
Stay calm and avoid stress even over small things. You can watch movies, listen to soft music or indulge yourself in some activity so as to divert your mind from pain.
Have proper sleep with a soft pillow. While sleeping, lie on your back & keep your head in the upward direction.
Get the bandages removed from doctors with prior appointment or as mentioned in the instructions. Once your bandage is removed, clean your scalp very carefully so as to provide sufficient moisture to the grafts.
Avoid sun exposure or direct sun light strictly for 3 days after the surgery. Even after 3rd day, you should wear a loose & suitable cap or use an umbrella while going out.
Keep your donor area clean with proper care. Use the given spray or ointment as per the instructions by your doctor. The other things like combing, bathing should be done with extreme care & caution.
You can start walk/jogging as body exercise after 8-10 days; but avoid doing heavy activities like gym, weight lifting, running etc for about a month. No neck stretch exercises to be done during this time.
Take adequate amount of healthy meal for required energy. Proper diet with rich proteins/nutrients will help you in fast & efficient healing/recovery.
During second week after the surgery, the grafts will start falling off; but you need not to worry about that. It is a part of transplanted hair growth procedure and it will start growing again within 2-3 months.
It is strictly recommended not to use hair cosmetic products like hair sprays, gels, blow dryer, hair color etc for at least 4-5 months after the surgery. These products can put harsh effects on the growth of transplanted hair.
